Workshops Galore at Tarts and Crafts!

Since September when Tarts and Crafts, Balmedie's Community Café and Craft Gallery launched it's Autumn programme of workshops there have been lots of creative busy bees at the café. The October holidays saw the return of the kids club that ran on Wednesdays in the summer holidays. The club was almost overwhelmed with children making peg doll vampires, colourful twirling snakes, playing the keyboard, reading books, playing games and getting their face painted while their parents enjoyed a quiet latte and home-made carrot cake with friends!

Morag's Christmas card workshop will show you how to make the most wonderful cards on a budget to duck the 'credit crunch'. She will open your eyes to the fantastic array of decorative papers which we throw away every day in the form of bags and envelopes or how to turn charity shop finds to your creative advantage- music manuscript and old books. Two hours of puddling around with charms, fibres, papers, materials, ribbons and lots more exciting things to create your own handmade cards in no time at all.

The fortnightly meditation and relaxation evenings at Tarts and Crafts is a very popular way to unwind on a Friday night. The session starts with relaxation and meditation followed by free flowing discussions on various 'mind, body and soul' topics orientated to unlocking the emotional and intuitive abilities within yourself. The group is open to everyone to come along to and share their own thoughts and experiences. It is a great way to meet like minded people.

Calley's introduction to decorative painting classes have been so popular that she had to run an extra session for some loyal followers this week as they can't come to the Saturday workshops. She breaks down a seemingly complex and exquisite design to step by step instructions meaning even those most terrified of painting manage to produce fantastic work.

Eunice's rag-rugging workshop is about beating the credit crunch too. Instead of using costly cloth she will be helping you to make rugs from plastic bags which are surprisingly soft and vibrant; a satisfying, cheap and environmentally friendly hobby. Eunice finds that with Rag Rugging she can "draw and paint" with fabrics where she can't on paper. It's an addictive hobby.

Arlene will show you how to stitch and sew a colourful assortment of fabrics, ribbons and laces into beautiful Christmas decorations you'll keep forever. As a member of the embroiderers guild and experience working on the ceremonial cloths of St Paul's Cathedral in London she's an excellent teacher with so much knowledge to share.

Check out our Classes page for dates, times and prices for all the workshops mentioned above.
